Switching Your Web Site to Joomla!

from: Deb St. George - WonderRanchPublishing.net

You are probably thinking about switching your website to Joomla. No wonder. Almost everybody who knows anything about websites is switching. Joomla's advantages are truly amazing. Joomla is an open source (free) platform for web sites that is reliable and effective. Most importantly, Joomla gives nontechnical people the tools to manage the content of their own websites in ways they never would have thought possible.

When you originally had our website set up, you probably paid a lot of money to some website design company. Every time you've wanted to do something different on the website, you have to pay more money to the technical people. It's understandable that some businesses just give up on making any changes and let their websites stagnate. However, in these economic times, that's a sure way to let the competition beat you.

Joomla is a totally different website platform. Once your website is switched over to Joomla, you will be able to easily make changes to your content. You won't need someone who knows HTML (website computer language) to make changes. You can add content to the website yourself and modify presentation of it.

If you're not quite sure you could do that, take a “test drive” on the Joomla demo web site. Create an account on the demo web site by entering your email. When you get the activation email, just click to get started. You'll find that it is incredibly easy to use Joomla. You will have access to your demo account for a month so you can spend a lot of time getting used to it. You can try uploading articles and then manage them individually or globally. There are a number of other functions you can try out with the demo, such as mass mail. As you try the Joomla demo, you'll start thinking about how much easier it would be manage your website's content this way.

You can also read the Joomla Quick Start Guide and watch a training video. The training guide gives you step-by-step instructions for building a Joomla website. You'll be taken through an example of a website for a fictitious landscaping company. You'll learn how to install Joomla and use extensions that provide you with endless options for setting up your website.

If you don't want to switch your website to Joomla yourself, you can find a technical person to do it at very little cost. There are a number of freelancer websites where you can get individual technical people to bid on switching your website to Joomla. In most cases, it shouldn't be more than a day's work. Look over the Joomla extensions and see if there are any that will improve your website's functions. The Joomla extensions are free, too. You can get extensions that allow you to do everything from managing multilingual translations to setting up e-Commerce for unlimited products. If you feel you need technical support to set up the Joomla extensions, that will cost very little. Then you'll be able to manage your content yourself.

If you can use word processing software, you will have no trouble with Joomla. It is totally usser friendly. Once your web site is switched over to Joomla, you will be amazed at what you can do to add content and manage it yourself.
