Web Content Management Systems

from: Deb St. George - WonderRanchPublishing.net

Web based applications, websites and online HTML based resources have become ubiquitous in the business environments these days. These are used by all business concerns independent of their sizes to spread their reach amongst potential customers and clients. The web content management system is a software application package designed to facilitate in publishing the content over web pages. This content is used to update websites, configure home page and publish other web content.

The Content management system is designed in such a way that the publishing of the content and management of websites does not require a user to be conversant with HTML, JavaScript, Java and other such technical web tools. So a person who does not have the background in computers can easily manage the deployment and development of web pages without undergoing training for the same.

The users can easily use the web content management system to update web pages using the authoring tools that can be easily used without any knowledge of markup language or java. Most CMSs provide What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editors that work just like a simple word processor.

The tool has an active repository to store the contents; provisions are there for Meta data also for the extra features. Most of the data has XML format which can be presented and managed in a more proficient way.

This software application thus, can help in creation, modification and control of content that has to be published in the online resources of an organization.

The capabilities of web content management system are presented as follows:

Managing of templates: Creation of automatic templates that can be used and managed from a central position. The templates are designed keeping the generic requirements of the users in mind and can easily be used from one interface panel.

Easily Editable content: The application package has essential tools to separate and isolate the visual content from the text content. Once the text content is separated, the editing of web content can easily be done without any problem by any non-IT savvy user.

Scalable feature set: The application package has panel which is equipped with sophisticated plug-ins that can be used by users to increase the effectiveness and appeal of a website.

Web standard upgrades: The web CMS can be easily updated to upgrade application to latest version which provides more new and sophisticated features to the users.
